Ogrebanes Omnium Gatherum part-14C: Rune basics.


I based all the Runeshapers but I forgot to take a wip shot of the bases so the first pic you see is actually from the first unit of runeshapers I finished last month. The idea is the same I take some Garden mulch bark and stick it to the base, then use a piece of wire as the support for the spell effect of the ground being ripped up and flung. I tried to do a few more interesting ideas for the new lot to keep it interesting. let me know what you think.





May have gone a bit over board with a few of these. One of the good things about taking pics is it picks up everything. One of the bad things about taking pics is it picks up everything. A few bits to cleen up on the flesh it would seem.



These are for gaming so as I said I wasn't overly fussy but I will do a little bit more finishing touches on some of these guys,




Still need to do snow and grass on the base but  I like where they are going atm.

Ogrebanes Omnium Gatherum part-14b: Painting Runes

I've tried to paint these guys with a formula similar to a favourite painters of Ado's. he mainly paints Starwars minis but its a good formula to use. If I find the guys name I'll drop a link in somewhere. Anyway he paints in 5 steps.
1. Prep and under coat.
2. Base coat
3. Shade (Washes etc)
4. Highlights
5. All the details.


So the last post was step 1. In this post is steps 2-4. I forgot to take photos at the base coat stage so really you will only see steps 3 and 4.


Anyway here are a few pics to peruse.

This is step 3 with base coat and washes

I wasn't to careful at this point with the wash or the base coat. I did a little clean up work but I was interested with speed over neatness.



I use 2 or 3 washes in tis step. The first is a very watered down wash that is applied all over and each subsequent layer is thicker and darker but applied to the recesses only.



Step 4. Hightlighting

I used the base coat for the most part to highlight each section. I usually use a slightly lighter version of the color for the base coat as the wash will usually darken it quite a bit.




Next step is basing and a few finishing touches. If you saw my last lot of Runeshapers you know what to expect for the base.

Ogrebanes Omnium Gatherum part-14a: The runes take shape.

Last time I showed a unit of Runeshapes. I did a bit of work on the bases but the rest was straight forward with no mods at all.


So as some of you know I don't like all my minis looking the same so for the other 3 units I mixed up the bits a little.


Here's a look of what I've done before I put paint on them.


I had to make a mould of the bald head as it was pretty much destroyed when I removed it.
I have a few ideas in mind to show the spell effect they have.
I will mix the units up a bit better so all the trolls don't have the same head or body in each unit.

And here is a quick peek of the new unit attachment for the troll bush wackers. The mortar was a prick to put together as I couldn't use super glue.

Aris and Glenn are neck and neck at 90% of games played with painted minis.
Kort has the best percentage of Game wins. James actually has a better stat but Im not going to count him till he has 20 games logged.
Kort got Points for a tourney win and 2 2nd place at the Gold coast. I got a best painted in toowoomba.

This is pretty much Ado's game. We dabbled in it a bit but Ado had dived right in. I may have to put a handycap on the games as they are only half as long and painting is only 2-4 ships.

Well Glenn is way ahead on points and will be hard to beat. I know both Eddie and Kort have at least 1 tourny to register so it may change the table a bit.

Ogrebanes Omnium Gatherum part-14: Shaping the Runes

Every runes of war army needs a few units of rune shapers and I was about to buy them when Creddy Eddy (a notorious faction jumper) put up his army for sale. I wont pay more than half price for 2nd hand minis as they are a lot of work to strip and clean etc.

Anyway I had one unit that was bare plastic so I decided to start with them. I tried to clean up the mould lines, I usually do it before assemble as it makes it easier but it wasn't to be this time. Anyway by the time I got to the washes I noticed some of the mould lines were still there so I guess I'll have to do better next time.

Anyway the first unit are going to be unconverted but I want to make the bases look more dynamic like the guys are ripping up the earth and flinging it at the enemy. I think they look alright but let me know what you think.

So here are the first unit.
Remodelled the axe into a hammer. Seems more in line with these guys

You can see the earth lifting on both sides of this guy.
I love the effect it gives

I used washed to give the yellow a bit more depth


The bases line up well as long as they are arranged in this manner.


Having trouble getting the color right with this new camera. Oh well I'll keep trying.

Kooinda gaming Klub league Table for Oct 2015

KGK League table oct 2015

Sorry for the lack of posts there will be more "Ogrebane's Omnium-Gatherum" Soon O promise.

Anyway I have tallied all the games that have been logged so far and this is the table as it stands. I have broken them down into 4 tables. overall, Warmachine, Starwars and others. there were a lot more "Others" Played during the year but I guess no one bothered to log them. Any of you guys that have logged games you want me to put in the table drop me a line and Ill update the table.

Remember it is 20 cents a game to register a game and all proceeds go to prises at the end of the year (looking like 28th November at the moment.) We currently have $140 in the kitty with Ado, Kort and eddie to pay for the games they have registered.

So get in as soon as you can. I will be buying the prises in the next few weeks when I decide what catagories we are going to reward.

Ogrebanes Omnium Gatherum part-13b : Born of this earth

More progress shots. I went for a more earthy skin tone with this guy. Still needs some washes to darken it up but I have to be careful it doesn't look too much like the wood colour.


Tooth fell out. 2 Part sux for glueing small bits.
I guess Eddie will have to glue it in for me (I'm allergic to super glue)



All the bits seem to fit pretty good.
Just need to finish of the tree with some roots and it can get painted.



Hind sight is a great thing.
If I was to do this again I would make the right arm the one used to vault over the wall.

Ogrebane's Omnium-Gatherum Part 13a. Born of this earth

Progress report.

One of the great things about digital cameras is that they take a picture as it is and show up every flaw. The bad thing about digital cameras is that they take a picture as it is and show up every flaw. So I thought I had finished all the green stuff but there is a part on the right forearm that I will redo. Its supposed to look like bark but I seem to have missed a big chunk.

Anyway with that being said this is what the final mini will look like. Just to clarify though the base isn't finished. I want to paint the Troll first then attach it to the mostly painted base, then finish the base off. The problem is the tree gets in the way so I wont attach the right hand to the wrist till the troll is painted then I will sculpt some roots etc. for the bottom of the tree.

I had to re-sculpt the belly. Don't know what was going on there.

As you can see the bottom of the tree needs finishing. That will have to wait till the rest is done.

Not much to see here move along.

You can kind of make out the bark on his arm. Painting will help make it stand out.

Ogrebane's Omnium-Gatherum Part 13. Born of this earth


Yes yet another troll project.

I guess there comes a time in every Troll players life where he decides to play Runes of War. Well I’m no different and after much resistance I gave it a go with a mostly proxied army. I didn’t want to spend the $160 to buy the runeshapers so I spent over $200 to buy a different army that may or may not ever see the light of day.

I liked the style of play and I played the standard list

I liked that Mulg was in there as I had spent a lot of time building him and he doesn’t get much play and I had just finished a Diretroll kit that was magnetised so I had the Mauler and every troll player will buy the startup kit so I had at least one Axer. The only beast I didn’t have was the Earthborn. I’ve used him a few times and like what he brings to the table but I really hate the mini so I decided to get another Diretroll kit and build my own.


So the idea is that he will take on the aspects of the terrain he is touching. Below you can see the start of the base. I reshaped the left arm to be holding a low wall. I will either make the arm look more rock like or paint it as if it is transforming to rock I haven’t decided yet.

The Right arm will be holding a tree trunk and will be turning to wood. As above I will either make the arm look like the trunk or paint it like it is turning.

I was going to have one of the legs in some water but I’m not sure how to represent the leg turning to liquid (I don’t think my painting and sculpting skills are up to it.

So let’s have a look at what I have so far.




These are all the bits you get in the kit. Enough to make 3 different trolls.




Left arm reshaped. I made the wall out of Dense foam but as it wouldn’t hold the weight of the mini I have put a heavy pin through the arm that will go into the base to support the weight. I then covered the base in a mix of PVA and paint to seal the bark and the foam.




Test fit. I put the had in boiling water for 60 seconds and bent the fingers a bit to make the hand pose look more "natural". He is still going to hang over the base but hopefully his height will be enough to not get in the way of other minis.

X-Wing trench run scenerio.

I’ve seen a few of these babies about but our group have decided to give it a go ourselves.

feel free to comment on these rules. They haven't been play tested but I hope to film the game and publish it here.

So the rules we have come up with are as follows.

Players:
This game is for two teams of players. It would be best to have 3 rebel and 2 or 3 Imperial players

Table Setup:
  1.  Table is 8’ x 4’ with an 8 inch trench running down the middle as shown in the diagram. 
  2. The Exhaust port will be marked 6” from 1 end of the trench.
  3. The Rebels will initially enter from that end and be outside the trench.
  4. The Imperials will enter the table from the other end and will be outside the trench.
  5. It would be best to have the trench as an actual trench and to have clear Perspex to cover it to note which ships are in the trench and which are just flying over it.

Trench warfare:
  • A line will be marked at the halfway point as in the above figure. Once a ship has gone past that line they may not enter the trench. You may start before the line and end after the line.
  • A ship outside the trench cannot shoot at a ship in the trench and visa versa.
  • A ship may enter the trench at either end.
  • A ship cannot turn in the trench.
  • A ship may elect to leave the trench by using its action or affecting a K-turn.
  • A ship may also enter the trench by flying off the imperial end. The ship re-enters the board in the trench and does not receive a stress token.
  • Any straight or slight curve manoeuvre will count as entering the trench, no sharp turns or K-turns maybe used to enter the trench. No manoeuvres may be used to enter the trench ie. barrel rolls. Once the ship has entered the trench he may make a jink as an action to straighten up, then he takes a stress token. Regardless of whether the pilot jinks the ship takes a stress token unless entering from off the table as above.
  • Any ship colliding with another ship in the trench will tank 1 dice of damage each. If a ship manoeuvres into the wall it will take 3 hits that are uncancellable (these are hull hits not to the shield). If a ship takes a damage card it is ejected from the trench. All other actions are cancelled and any “stay on target tokens” are lost. The ship may then make its move as normal.
  • For every turn a rebel ship is in the trench and doesn’t have to roll an evade dice he will collect a “Stay on target token”. This token can be used once you make your attack roll to add an extra dice to your attack roll. A pilot may choose not to roll evade dice in order to acquire a stay on target token.
  • To destroy the Death Star, a Rebel ship must target lock the exhaust port (Except Luke who can use the force. Luke also always rolls an extra dice when firing at the exhaust port) and fire a proton torpedo at it (each Rebel ship is given a free proton torpedo which is only to be used for a shot on the exhaust port). The player must roll at least one crit, one hit and one focus to succeed. All shots at the Port are a minimum of 3 dice.
Fleet Composition:
  • Rebel fleet will contain 1 unit of Y-wings and 5 units of x-wings. Each unit contains 3 ships and only 1 named pilot. Each squadron is made up of up to 80 points.
  • Rebels may swap one squadron for a millennium falcon with Hans solo and chewy for a total of 80 points. Hans cannot enter the game until at least 1 squadron of rebel ships are destroyed.
  • An example of a rebel Squadron is as follows:
                   Luke Skywalker, R2-D2
                   Red Squadron Pilot, R2-D6, Adrenaline Rush
                   Rookie Pilot, R5-K6
  • Imperial fleet contains as many Black Squadron pilots as it wishes but may only have up to 3 squadrons on the board at any time. Each squadron will contain 3 ships and have a value up to 60 points.
  • Darth Vader squadron contains himself, Mauler Mithel and Backstabber with any upgrades up to 80 points. He may not enter the board until the rebels make their first trench run.
  • An example of an Imperial Squadron is as follows:
                    Black Squadron Pilot, Elusiveness, Hull Upgrade
                    Black Squadron Pilot, Expert Handling, Hull Upgrade
                    Black Squadron Pilot, Ruthlessness, Engine Upgrade
  • The imperial side will also control 4 x trench guns and 4 x Turbolaser turrets. Trench guns may be fired but will shoot at every ship in the trench, friend or foe, rolling 2 dice. All ships get an extra evade die for this to a minimum of 1 die. Laser turrets used as normal.
  • No laser turret or trench gun may be closer that range 2 to another laser turret or trench gun.
  • If a ship flies into a laser turret it takes 2 dice worth of damage and the turret takes 1 dice worth of damage. If a laser turret is destroyed it is left as an obstacle.
Win conditions:
  • Rebels win by destroying the death star.
  • Imperials win by destroying all Rebel ships or stopping them from destroying the death star for 10 turns.
