Ogrebane's Omnium-Gatherum Part 12. Awash with Legion

As part of the Immoran's deadliest warrior - Light war beasts, I wanted a pic of all our beasts that were in the finals. The only one (well actually there were two) that wasn't painted was Raek which Ado had an under-coated model here. The other was a Rotterhorn Griffon but I cant tell a Rotterhorn from a Scarfell so we used that instead.

Anyway Ado wanted me to write down the paint formulas so I thought I'd put it here. So here are a few pics to start off.

The body was done with a mix of PP 2 parts Greycoat grey 1 part white and 1 part Cygnar blue. This was watered 2 to 1 to make a wash then washed onto the skin parts. Then I washed this with a blue ink watered down and once dry I added more white to the base and high lighted any bits too dark. Kind of a soft dry brush.

Any part of the bones with blue on it I repainter white then used GW blood red watered 2 to 1 and washed all the bone moving the brush towards the recess and leaving a small line of white. Any bits of the edge that had too much red on I hit with a wet brush to get rid of the red.

Next I hit the recesses with strong wash from Army Painter. This was watered maybe 1 to 1 and in the bigger parts 2 or 3 washes were done.

And lastly was the teeth and horns etc. They were painted white then washed with Soft wash from Army painter then re-highlighted with watered down white. The gums and mouth area was painted with a watered down red as well.

Easy as, hope that helps Ado.

Enjoy

Immoren's Deadliest Warrior - Kooidaminda Thunderdome! Light Warbeasts Part 4

Game 7

Last preliminary round before the big match. Its Trolls vs Circle. Just goes to show how many lights each of these factions have. Our line up is as below.

Pyre Troll: My second favourite troll. If he can stand back and shoot he might be in with a chance.

Night Troll: Not a fan but maybe its got game

Troll Axer: Thresher, Oh yer! If it can get in first and it should then it will do some damage.

Rotterhorn Griffon: Hmm it gets a free special action and it’s got the shriek and it can fly.

Scarsfell Griffon: I like this guy better. It gets parry and lots of other stuff that should see t through.

Argus Moonhound: Circular vision and it can move if someone casts an animi within 3” of it. Meh “this is not its room.”(movie quote)

Turn1: Rotterhorn moves 3”. Pyre troll moves 3” takes a shot at the Rotterhorn and misses. Everyone else makes a small move towards the center.

Turn 2: Rotterhorn moves towards the Scarfell, Pyre troll shoots at the Night Troll and misses. Night troll runs and animi’s (Allure). Axer runs towards the Argus. Argus moves in and howls. Scarfell charges the moonhound and does damage on all his attacks to kill it. Bad dog get back in your box.

Turn3: Rotterhorn moves 3”. Pyre troll charges Night Troll but fails. Night Troll charges the Pyre troll. Night troll paralyses the Pyre troll but is set on fire. Axer Charges the Scarfell but fails. Scarfell attacks the Axer and does total of 5 dmg.

Turn 4: Rotterhorn moves and sprays the Axer and does 7 dmg. Pyre troll hits the Night troll for 11 dmg. Night Troll regens and fire goes out. Night troll then head butts the Pyre troll and knocks him down and is set on fire again. Axer regens then moves and threshers. Hits the Rotterhorn for 5 dmg and the Scarfell for 6 dmg. Scarfell runs to center. Then the walls move and Axer and Rotterhorn take 5 more dmg.

Turn 5: Rotterhorn attacks the Axer and kills it. Pyre slaps the Night troll around again for 5 dmg and the fire does another 3 dmg. Night troll moves and the free strike gets him another 5dmg. Scarfell charges the weakened Night troll and kills it. Walls move and the Pyre Troll and Rotterhorn take another 5 dmg.

Turn 6: Rotterhorn moves to the center. Pyre troll attacks and kills the scarfell.

Turn 7: Things are hotting up and we’re down to the wire. Rotterhorn slams the Pyre troll thru the barrier and the Pyre troll takes 6 dmg total. Pyre moves back to the center and regens.

Turn 8: Rotterhorn picks up the Pyre troll and thorws him out again for 5 dmg. Pyre troll shoots but no dmg the regens. Pyre troll takes another 5 dmg for being outside the barrier.

Turn 9: Fire goes out on Rotterhorn. Rotterhorn moves back to center. Pyre troll moves to center and shoots but misses.

Turn 10: Rotterhorn slams the Pyre troll who goes outside the barrier again and is finally killed.

Regen really kept the Pyre troll in the game for a long time. A couple of lucky shots and some extra fire damage and the game would have gone the other way.

Immoren's Deadliest Warrior - Kooidaminda Thunderdome! Light Warbeasts Part 3

GAME 5

About this time of the night we had a few extra drop ins so we  have 6 beasts per game and me Scribing. Its pretty tight (he he) with 6 in the arena but they are just out of charge range of each other.
So tonites contestants are,

From Legion... Raek. A lot of good stuff here I remember when one of these guys lept over my man o wars to kill butcher.
From Trollbloods The Winter Troll. The ability to freeze stuff is good but it can be shaken.
Circle brings you the Woldwatcher. So its animus will stop it front being thrown out of the ring, I'm thinking that's a good thing.
And just because we cant get enough of Legion we bring you the Afflictor. It flies and it has reach so take that.
And circle brings you another Wold, the Woldwyrd. A rock on a string maybe this isn't his game.
And last circle bring you the Winter Argus. The troll is going to have trouble with this guy. Freezing breath and immunity to cold, where have I heard that before.

So the beasts start out approx 18 inches apart if my math works so no first turn charges taking place.

Turn 1. Raek runs towards the center then Winter troll moves 5"and sprays Raek but misses. Watcher moves 3" as does the Afflictor (keeping ahead of the walls). Wyrd moves and shoots the Afflicter and does 9 dmg then another 7 taking out its body. Argus animi gives it +2 arm then it moves 6 ".

Turn 2. Raek charges the Winter Troll and does 9 dmg, attacks again and does 5 more (ouch) then is Frozen for its trouble. Winter troll moves then sprays watcher for 2 dmg. Watcher moves near Afflictor and shoots for 1 dmg taking him out of the game. Wyrd moves and shoots at Argus and does 7 damage taking out his spirit and pretty much takes him out as well as he cant be gforced now. But the Argus sprays the Wyrd and does 7 damage to it. Walls move but every one is in the ring.

Turn 3.  Raek shakes stationary and moves to the center. Winter Troll with no spirit (why is the rum gone?) sprays the watcher and does 2 dmg. Watcher who now notices the troll sprays it and kills it. Wyrd sprays the Argus for 4 dmg and the Argus sprays the Wyrd and misses but the second shot does 3 dmg. Walls move and all safe.

Turn 4.  So whose left. We still have Raek, both the Wolds and the Argus. So Raek charges the Wyrd and do3es 9 dmg, then attacks the Argus and misses so has another go at the Wyrd and kills it.Watcher moves and shoots at Raek in combat but misses both. The Argus does some stuff then the controller reads the card changes tack and attacks Raek and misses twice.

A Woldwatcher when it turtles.

Turn 5. By this stage I'm rooting (is that the correct spelling? oh well what ever) for Raek. Raek moves so he can hit the other two contestants. Attacks the Watch which autohits rolls a lot of 1's so tries hitting the Argus and does no damage so buy boosts dmg on the watcher and does 3 dmg (Is it too late to change my pick). Watcher hits Raek for 6 then turtles then the Argus hits the watcher but no dmg. Walls etc next turn.

Turn 6. Raek attacks the watcher and does no dmg tries again and does 5. Watcher boosts to hit Raek and takes out his spirit then turtles Argus attacks the Watcher but does no dmg.
Turn 7. Raek flails ineffectively at the watcher (annoying little thing it is)  Watcher takes a swing at Raek but misses then attacks the Argus and hits and kills it then turtles.
Turn 8 to end. So Raek takes a few turns at Watcher with do dmg. Eventuallt Watcher picks up Raek and throws it out of the ring and kills it.

Damn I hate those Rock Monsters.

Game 6

Its funny how many coincidences happen with random selection. Like lotto that nearly always has at least 2 sequential numbers. For this game we have the follow players.

Basilisk Krea, Its a giant frog that can slow stuff down. And its ugly.
Basilisk Drake, (theres the coinkidink)  So we've seen what happens when stuff gets thrown around. Lets see what happens when they are pushed.
Teraph is like a six legged Raek but with counter blast he should do a bit of damage.
Troll Bouncer, Well you know I love me some trolls and this guy is a brick S#!Thouse. Regens a given brace for impact nice for not going very far and bump to knock those puny mortals out of the ring not that I'm biased.
Nephilim Bolt Thrower is an impressive model and we all know how well ranged attacks go in the arena and this one can puch you as well.
And last on the line up is the Cyclops Brute. Stopping itself from knockdown and slam distance halved might help in this fight with so many pushes. I said pushes not er.

So lets get it on. Here is the starting positions.

Game 6. Start positions.
Turn 1. Games starts with Skorne on one side and Legion and the bouncer on the other. But any thoughts of cooperative play go out the window real quick.
Krea and Drake jockey for position. Teraph moves and shoots at Drake. He misses and so does the counter blast. Oops did we forget something. Bouncer lights up bump and charges the Bolt Thrower but is out of range. Bolty moves towards the Cyclops and takes a shot hits and pushes him out of the arena (I'm going to change that rule next time) and does 11 dmg so the Cyclops makes him reroll and no damage is done. Cyclops who is a little one eyed on this situation (ba dum dar) charges the Bolt thrower and takes out its spirit. (its all over now)

Turn 2. Now here's where the rot sets in. Krea moves towards the Cyclops (Bucking for promotion I see). Drake moves towards Krea in a classic Skorne game of who stabs who in the back. Drake sprays Krea and hits for 6 dmg (needed to boost on that). Teraph moves towards Drake. I guess he can smell blood. It shoots at Drake and takes out his mind. Bouncer moves towards Teraph cause you know thats how this game is going, don't turn your back on anyone. Bolt thrower swings and misses so Cyclops punishes him with a slap a total of 5 more dmg. I think poor bolty shot at the wrong beast.

Walls move everyone is in the ring. (for the rules go to Immoren-deadliest-warrior-Rules)

Turn 3. Krea shoots at Drake and misses. Drake decides enough is enough and charges Krea, but fails to hit. Teraph shoots at the Bouncer and chips the paint on his shield. Bouncer charges Teraph who counter strikes and chips some more paint then the bouncer gets stuck in. Bouncers attack takes out its mind. Bolt thrower tries at the Brute but his heart is not in it anymore and misses 3 times. Cyclops in a display of brilliant sword work misses all his shots cause he has a halberd which is a completely different weapon. Walls yarda yarda.

Turn 4. So we have 3 separate fights going on now. at about the 120 degree mark about as far away from each other as possible. Krea and Drake exchange blows and more blood is drawn, Teraph is struggling with the bouncers armour and only manages to pee the Bouncer off who then takes out another arm of the spiral. Bolty couldnt hit a barn if you threw the barn at him and the Brute puts the hurt on the Bolty but he is still in the game (Only just). Walls Walls this isnt the mercs you know but Krea and Drake are damaged for another 5 each.

Turn 5. Krea hits Drake and kills it. Whose the ugliest frog now eh? Teraph paws at the bouncer and gets killed for his troubles. Bouncer is still in good shape.Bolty needs to move to the center or the walls will get him. Cyclops gets a free strike but does no dmg. Now the Brute has to move but Bolty cant produce the goods and the Cyclops lops his head of and is also in real good shape.

Turn 6. Krea now turns his attention to the Cyclops. If only Skorne had stuck together. Krea does some dmg but after the reroll misses. The Bouncer tries to Slam Kra but misses and then cant hit him. Must have tripped on the way or something. Cyclops attacks the Bouncer but the Armour is just too good.

Turn 7 to end. Krea is finding out how hard a Brute is to hit and misses. Bouncer does some dmg to Krea. Cyclops has a depth perception problem and misses with 3 attacks. Krea tries to hit the bouncer but can get thru the armour either. Bouncer hits Krea and kills it then has a go at the Brute but misses and the Brute must be in defence mode cuase he misses as well. A few more rounds of this and finally the bouncer takes out the Cyclops spirit and from there it was all over. The Bouncer for the win.

Tanks seem to do really well in the Arena. But then so do long ranged knock back snipers so the end match will be awesome to watch. One more Game to go till the finals. I'll do that up on a new page.

Cheers

Immoren's Deadliest Warrior - Kooidaminda Thunderdome! Light Warbeasts Part 2

Game 3

So two rounds done and we still have all 5 factions represented. The next 5 warbeasts are:
Bull Snapper: Spiny growth might help him out but he has to take damage to cause damage but free charges are always a good thing.
Trollblood Impaller:  Snipe and Critical Smite should come in handy if he can knock a few out of the ring.
Laris is Kaya's companion. Most of its abilities will be useless here. Maybe speed will help.
Naga Nightlurker spits poison and can bind a beast for a turn. Meh!!!
The Cyclops Shaman looks more like a heavy infantry than a warbeast  a big spear though could help it.

Turn 1. Naga first moves 3" forward. Laris moves 3"as well. Impaller moves 3" then snipes at Laris but is out of range. Bull Snapper charges Naga, fails and uses spiny growth. Shaman moves towards the Bull Snapper and shoots doing 8 dmg taking out its mind. Not a good start for the bull snapper then.

Turn 2. Naga moves 3"as does Laris. Impaller moves 3"and shoots at Laris but misses. Bull Snapper charges Naga misses attack and uses spiny growth.

Turn 3. Naga attacks the Bull Snapper does 3 dmg and get 3 back from spiny growth. Laris slams the Impaller and knocks him outside the ring and takes a total of 9 dmg. Impaller gets up and moves inside the barrier. boosts to hit Laris and knocks him out of the barrier dong a total of 11 dmg. Bull Snapper kills the Naga so gets to regen but is killed by the Shaman who shoots him down.

Turn 4. Laris slams the Impaller but he stays in the ring  Impaller stands up boosts to shoot Laris and knocks him out of the ring killing him. Shaman shoots Impaller and does 9 damage but leaves him with spirit which allows him to regen next turn.

Turn 5 to end. So the Impaller regens enough for all systems to be working. Shoots at the shaman and does 10 damage. This is like a game of tennis using darts. Shaman shoots the Impaller for 2. The Impaller regens then shoots the Shaman for 9 more damage. Shaman misses the Impaller then the Impaller finishes him off.
Not my picture I borrowed it till I can get a pic of my own impaller
After this fight the Impaller was my favorite to win the whole deal. The throwing match between Laris and the Impaller was funny to watch but shows how the event differs so much from a normal battle.

Game 4

Minions only has 4 light warbeasts so they are out now, so this round only has 4 contestants.
We start with the Nephilim Soldier. Heavy hitter with reach but its animus is better suited to smaller models.
Next we have the Storm Troll. I have never used this guy before but electroleap is a good thing.
Now Gorax really should be classed a medium warbeast or at least a small heavy but here he is in the light weight division. Primal is great but it could get him in to trouble if not used wisely.
Last up is the Cyclops Savage. Reach weapon and future sight which may save on fury.

This should be a good fight. Only the Storm troll has a ranged attack and with two reach weapon-ed beasts he wont be able to hide for long.

Turn 1. The Setup
They all run for the center the soldier heads for Gorax (the fool)

Turn 2. A lot of shimmying for position this turn.
Turn3.  Gorax shimmies, Savage charges Storm Troll but is out of range. Storm Troll charges Savage boosts to hit but misses. Misses second shot as well. Soldier moves to the center and braces.
Turn 4.  Gorax moves to the center, Savage attacks the Storm Troll hits 4x for 19 damage but Storm Troll's spirit still there. Storm Troll regens 2 throws the Savage 2 1/2" at the Soldier but no damage. Soldier charges the Savage and does 8 dmg. Walls move in and kill the Storm troll.
Turn 5. Gorax shimmies, Savage attacks the Soldier does 7 dmg total then Soldier moves inside the wall zone.
Turn 6. Gorax goes Primal then charges Soldier and kills him. Savage moves behind Gorax and head butts gorax for 9 damage and knocks him down.
Turn 7. Gorax stands up and and frenzies bu does no damage. Savage hits back for 6 more dmg.
Turn 8. Gorax goes Primal and wipes the floor with the savage to take out the win. No real surprise there. I was never in doubt this guy was going to win this round.

Immoren's Deadliest Warrior - Kooidaminda Thunderdome! Light Warbeasts.

Immoren’s Deadliest Warrior, Light Warbeasts

As we do from time to time when we get together, we like to pit each type of warrior or beast together to see who will be Immoren’s Greatest Warrior (or in this case light warbeast). So the night before our March tournament we decided to do the light warbeasts. Rather than do it faction by faction and pit the beast of each faction against each other we decided to do them all at once. I think there are only about 30 ish of them so we played 7 Games and then the final. So I would like to present a brief of how that went. Now tis is for funsies so dont read too much into it even though the winner wasnt a surprise. Alot of the abilities of the warbeasts work better when supporting other beast etc so certain types do better in game than in this style of play. Also the draw was random so the person playing the beast wasnt necessarily the best person to be using the beast (The Impaler is a good example). Anyway hope you enjoy.

We had 5 players so for the first few rounds we had 5 beasts in the ring. I think 4 would have been enough.  All wartbeasts were allowed to use a full roster of fury each round and it would be removed for the next turn.

Game 1.
At this point each of the 5 factions had warbeasts available so we randomly selected one from each faction.

First is the Nefalin Blood seer. A few of his ability's wont work here but a reach weapon and flight are nice to have.
Next up the Slagtroll. Regen for the win and spewing acid (although much better against Jacks.) Corrosion is not so scary really.
Then we have the Argus. Vanilla two headed dog with a debuff bark. Hmm nuff said.
Ok so this one was new to me, A gun Boar. A boar with a cannon stuck to its back. The best part is if it gets killed the beast killing it gets to snack on all that bacon. MMMMMMMMMMM bacon.
And last up in the Cyclops Raider. SO its got a gun and a snipe ability I guess that's good.

Turn 1. Here is the lay out.

Gunboar is first and advances towards the Slag troll. Argus runs to the center nefalin runs at the Argus Slag troll moves and shoots at the Gunboar but misses.

Turn 2. Gunboar moves and shoots at the Argus. Argus with 360 deg line of sight charges the Gunboar which has its animus up so attacks the Argus and misses. Argus tries to get him some bacon and misses second attack hts but no dmg. Cyclops takes a shot at the Nefalin and scratches some paint then the Nef moves to the center. Slag troll takes a shot at the Gunboar. HIts but no dmg (corroded though) The walls move in but everyone is safe from them.

Turn 3. Boar rolls for corrosion and fails. We can all smell bacon. The Gunboar moves behind the Argus and attacks.does 11 points of dmg. Spurred on by his succeesses he wails at the poor puppy and kills it. Cyclop shoots at the Boar and does 4 pts of dmg, now he has its attention. The Nefalin charges the Boar but fails then is shot at by the Slag troll who puts some corrosion on  him.  Wall move and turn ends.

Turn 4. Boars corrision goes out then he tries to throw the Nefalin out of the ring but fails his strength test. Must be that big cannon he is carrying. Cyclops aims at the Nefalin and takes out a row. Nef makes his corrosion check then moves from a back shot of the Slag troll. Smacks the Boars around and kills it then comps on the bacon and heals 2 dmg. Slag moves to Nefs back arc and shoots him for 7 dmg. Nef is struggling now. Second shot misses. Walls move everyone is safe,

Turn 5. Cyclops moves to get a shot on the Slag troll. Both are unhurt at the moment. Cyclops hits the Troll for 3 dmg pfffft really and that was boosted.  Nef takes corrosion dmg then advance to Slag troll. Attacks but misses 3 times. Slag hits the Nefalin and kills it.

Turn 6. Cyclops shoot the Slag and takes out his body. Slag shoots back and wings the cyclops.
Turn 7. Same thing this round the Slag is coming off second best here. Slag decides to charge the Cyclops but with no body dmg is low.
Turn the end. A few rounds of slapping each other and the Cyclops eventually kills the troll. Thanks to regen he stayed alive for a couple extra rounds.

So First game goes to the Cyclops Raider. Shooting seems to be a bit of a theme here.

Game 2

Seems the shooters did well last game. Lets see if thier luck holds up. The contestants for this round are
The Swamp Troll. He can shoot with his tounge but then he has to drag them into for combat. Great against small bases but not so much here.
Nephilim Protector is great in defence but maybe not so good in attack. Will this help him last the distance.
Razorwing Griffon might do alright if he can get a slam  but otherwise he is better against smaller target.
The Razor Worm might be good against shooting especially templates but will the hand to hand do him in (especially since he has no hands)
And lkast is the Bone swarm. Once again maybe better against smaller target if it can kill it can boost att and dmg but its got to get in close to do that.

Turn 1. So Razor worm goes first and runs towards the center and digs in. Protector moves behind the razor Worm ready for a rear charge (I dont think Jay was using him). Bone Swarm advances, Griffin moves behind Bone Swarm then Swamp troll advances. Everyone tip toeing around and looking for an opening.

Turn 2.  Razor Worm moves to the Center and digs in. Protector charges the razor Worm but fails. Next the Bone Swarm charges the Razor worm and does a total of 5 dmg. Griffin shuffles Swamp troll uses his animi swarm then moves towards the center. Walls move and everyone is inside the area. What an action packed turn that was. There was plenty of mincing and a little meandering and someone was slapped in the face. What will happen next.

Such a pretty little thing. I don't know why more people wont take him.
Turn 3. Razor worm attacks the Bone swarm does 3 dmg (just a tickle really) The Protector charges Razor Worm hits it and takes out its spirit and mind. Not looking good for him.Bone Swarm charges Razor worm, kills it and gets a corpse token and uses it to heal. Griffon charges Bone swarm. Boosts to hit and does 5 dmg, hits again for 1. Swamp troll moves from center and shoots but misses.

Turn 4. Everyone hits everyone except the Swamp troll which shoots at Protector, misses then tries for the Griffon and misses. Wall closing in fast everyone is now in the center.

Turn 5. Protector Hits and kills the Bone swarm then casts his animi to stop him from being thrown out of the ring. Griffon charges Protector and kills it. Swamp troll who cant hit with its toungue charges the Griffon and takes out its mind. Griffon hits back but no damage then the Swamp troll finishes the job to go through to the finals.

Well that escalated quickly. Once one of the spirals go they are pretty useless but not being able to be forced is a death sentence to a light warbeast.

I'll do the next rounds in a latter post so stay tuned.

Epic Grimm's Dirty Dozen, The Bomber

This guy should look good once he is done. I may have to do a full re sculpt of the head but I think I will just use the Blitzers head instead. Anyway Im using a new camera so the color isn't quite right but here are a few updates.

Blitzer fists

Bomber, Double barrel shotgun is more western looking.

Here are the hands. The color is pretty close in this pic.

I want the head to look a bit like Mongo from Blazing saddles so he will get a big hat and a huge jaw and a cigar. Anyway let me know what you think so far.
