Player Profile: Jay 'Par-fait' Nielsen

Players Name: Jay (Parfait) Nielsen
Age: 28
POB: Nambour
Currently resides: Redbank Plains, Qld
Occupation: Student
Hobbies: Video Games, Reading, Wargames, Painting, Board Games, Sculpting, Parkour, Movies, Art.

KM: Jay has been a friend of Korts for as long as I can remember. He got his nickname from wearing a scarf one day. As was explained to him there are 4 reasons to wear a scarf.
1. You barrack for the team
2. Its -10 degrees
3. Your a commando on a mission
4. Your a girl or a parfait.

KM: How long have you been playing with toy soldiers.

JN: I didn't start playing Wargames until the year after I finished high-school (2002), I had always liked playing board games and liked painting so, when a friend introduced me to Warhammer, it was natural for me to take an interest.

KM: What is your current fav table top game
JN: Warmachine/Hordes, though I would like to have a go at Infinity, Bushido and the new Batman tabletop game.

KM: What other gaming systems have you played or are playing atm.
JN: Okay a few systems I’ve played
· Warhamer Fantasy
· Lord of the Rings

KM: What factions do you play or favour the most in Warmachine
JN: I play Cygnar, Skorne and now Legion of Everblight. I'd like to invest in every faction eventually.

KM: Who is you fav caster/warlock
JN: EHayley from Cygnar, nothing quite feels as good as second turn caster kills. Everyone knows what's coming now though so I'm looking into other fun and effective casters like Lylyth (Prime and Epic) and Saeryn.

KM: Would you call yourself a gamer or painter/modeler
JN: All of the above – but I'm much better at sculpting minis than anything else.

KM: Favorite memory of the game
JN: Turn one caster kill with EHayley, quick game is a good game.

KM: Least fav memory of the game.
JN: Losing. Lots. Took a while before I started to get the gist of the game system.

KM: What is the best model ever painted
JN: Not my best paint job but probably the most impressive mini I have made.

I took forever on my Chaos Mortals army, and never quite finished it but I at least got this guy done.

KM: So your part of the slow growth for the Kooinda Gaming club. What are your thoughts behind this?
JN: It's good, it's more laid back than tournaments that I have been to, and really gives me a push to get stuff bought and painted.

Player Profile Ado

Players Name: Adrian (Ado) Roberts
Age: 38
POB: Cold Northern Country!
Currently resides: Algester, Qld
Occupation: IT and Business Systems
Hobbies: Computer games, Reading, Wargames and painting

KM: I met Ado in 1998. At the time he played warhammer 4th edition. He was instrumental in setting up the tournament scene in Queensland. His tournament was called Pizza con. Play warhammer then eat pizza. A very relaxed scene and good pizza.

KM: How long have you been playing with toy soldiers.
Ado: Started playing games at 16 so 20+ Years, First game played was Adeptus Titanicus

KM: What is your current fav table top game
Ado: Two games come to mind, Warmachine/Hordes and Saga.

KM: What other gaming systems have you played or are playing atm.
Ado: Okay a few systems I’ve played
           · Adeptus Titanicus
           · Titanicus
           · Space Marine
           · Titan Legions
           · Warhammer Ancients
           · Warhamer Fantasy Battle (Started 3rd Ed)
           · Lord of the Rings (Strategy and Battles)
Yes I was a GW fan boy for a long time but now I generally never play their games. I like DnD, Co-op computer games and other small skirmish games like dystopia wars etc.

KM:  What factions do you play or favour the most in Warmachine
Ado:  I have faction ADD big time, I play Khador, Retribution of Scyrah, Menoth and Mercenary for Warmachine and Circle and Trolls for Hordes, I love the faction I'm painting and right now that’s Mercenary's.

KM:  Who is you fav caster/warlock
Ado: Graye from Circle and Thyra from Menoth – Yeah I love the super solo assassin casters.

KM: Would you call yourself a gamer or painter/modeler
Ado: All of the above – but collector and dojo “theory hammer” most of the time

KM: Favorite memory of the game
Ado: So many games, so many good memories. For Warhammer I think my favorite moment was one of my main opponents finally decided not to take a the bait after sending in a unit of throw away units to bait and flee in order to set up the win I was despairing him ever understanding why I always got the most effective charge and combats. In Warmachine I won a game by a power attack "Head-but" Terminus, it was amazing but somewhat lucky win.

KM: Least fav memory of the game.
Ado: Playing tournaments and coming across players trying to slow down the games to ensure they didn't lose by a larger margin.

KM: What is the best model ever painted
Ado: Here are some links to a few

I'm really an army painter rather than individual miniatures – I’d love to turn this around and have a go at improving my painting

KM: So your part of the slow growth for the Kooinda Gaming club. What are your thoughts behind this?
Ado: Im looking for a more relaxed style of gaming. Im not really interested in the power gaming anymore (been there done that). One of the things I want to do with this series is to paint the minis I like and play them for fun.

KGKMAI For 2011 and 2012

As Ive stated in a couple of other posts we run a tournament every 3 months at my house. It goes by various names but usually something like "Kooinda Gaming Klub Multi Annual Invitational Klash". In 2012 it was the Battle box bash and in 2011 it was just whatever you liked. In 2013 it will be a slow growth tourney.

Here are a few pics from some of the tourneys. The deal with the trophies was it must not cost over $5 and it shouldnt take more than 2 hours to build. Also the winner had to supply the next trophy. Well that didnt always happen so I had to fill in and build a few extra trophies. Also as time went on we added more trophies to the mix to the point we will now have a trophy for the best trophy and the best trophy is eligable for the best trophy award.

Anyway in some sort of order here are some of the previous winners.

This was from our first tourney. As you can see I was reluctant to give up this trophey. The skull cost $2 and the backing board about $1.50. It took me nearly half an hour to paint this one up. I think the date was around mid 2011 as I still have hair. I will put more details about the tourney in here once I get them.

You get a better look at it here. Thats Matt_Man giving the trophy to Aido.

This is the second tourney we had. Must have been before Nov 11 as well as I still have hair so I would guess Sep 11. Shags won this with a Cygnar shooty army. I think this one was 50pts two lists. Aido made this trophy mostly from DAS and a $1.50 backing board. He nearly went over the 2 hour build time tho.

Must have missed a tourney here cause thats Matt-Man handing a trophy to Aido. So it must be in April 2012. That would mean Matt_Man won the tourney in January. Once again the trophy being made by matt-man was well within the $5, 2 hour limit. I think he was building it during the tourney.

So this is the Tourney we ran in November 2012. It was supposed to be a 50 point battle box bash but we only had 2 people who could pull together a 50 point army (Hence changing the rules for 2012) Instead it was a 50 point two list bash. We also introduced a few extra trophies. This one was man of the Match. For the Caster/solo/jack who did the most boxes worth of damage. I believe it was beast 09 who matt picked for this honour.

This one is for the Slayer trophy. For the most amount of army points destroyed by a player. Nathan was playing Ret and had a death cricket. I call shenanigans.

Ok Im getting a bit confussed with all these new trophies but I think this is the Assasin award for the fastest caster kill. It was something over an hour so not going to set any records. You will notice Eddie has photo bombed every picture. There were over 50 photos taken at this tourney and he bombed every one of them. Thats what I call commitment. I think he was neglected as a child.

Ok this one is called the Lemon award. Its for the first loser cause as we all know second is the first of the losers. And how embarasment who we all lost to.

Ok I dont know how this happened. Really a scar-fait wearing Par-fait. I blame the rum myself.

We also played a doubles tourney in December. I even managed to register it on wanking rankings. We had 7 players but as Eddie was registered as both Eddie C and Eddie T on the ranking site he played as two players. Alot of people thought this would be to powerful but in the end he was beaten by the combined forces of Aido with Retribution and Kort with Legion. It was a good day but we have banned rum drinking at tourneys from now on. Way to aggressive.

This is actually the Slayer award as they combined killed nearly twice as many points as anyone else. Jaybo was making the first place which I dont belive he has finished yet (Really going over the two hour limit on this one)

Anyway next year I hope to take more pics of the games and do a few battle reports as well as Caster/solo/unit/jack analysis.

Till  next time have a great 2012.
