End of year tourney and results

So the final tourney has been run and won for 2013. It was a great day with a small 2 hour hiatus for me to go to my daughters 3d scan.

So the results were as follows

Field Marshal:  First place. Ado with 3 straight wins.

Assassin: Quickest castor kill. Jay won cause he was the only one to log it.

Genocide: Highest army points killed: Kort with 116

Phat controller: Most control points. Eddie with 8 points

Champion: Model with most boxes taken. Allan

Parade ready: Best painted Aris

I wanted trophies for all the categories but I just ran out of time. Ado came to the rescue and made up a heap of certificates in frames. (He wasn’t expecting to take most of them home with him)

So as you can see Ado was overall winner. Something to note is his painting points really helped him out and if Kort or Jay had have played more painted games it would have been a lot different.

So Ado got first place (Field Marshal)

Kort won the Most games won (Slayer)

and most castor kills (assassin)

Jay won most games played (The gamer)

I won the Sheppard award for being able to herd all the gamers to the tourney.

I have to say this year was a huge success. Most of us ended up with 2 fully painted 50 point armies and a couple can field 3 of them. We played over 240 games and represented in at least 6 tournies. I had a great time and learned alot about the games. I may not have improved a heap but I know my faction now and enough to know why I’m not winning. Some of the guys have improved out of sight. We had a 4th and a 6th in a tourney and 2 players in the top 50.

I can’t wait for next year and I’m a lot more confident going to cancon this year. Bring on the gauntlet.

So the year is nearly over already. We have our end of year tourney on the 14th so I need you all to get your games in for the league table by wednesday next week. Get at it guys 

Warmachine Wednesday at The Battlestation 5 Dec.

Jay Played Allen Love again, he was using Fiona the Black, Galleon, Kayazy Assassins with underboss, two units of kayazy eliminators, Lanyssa Rysill and Nyss, Gorman, PEyris, Ogren Bokur and The Piper. I ran my standard PLylyth list.

Allen went first and advanced everything, I ran everything up, with my striders packed in behind a building on the edge of the field, raptors on a hill and my battlegroup in a forest, after my ravagore lobs a scather towards the Nyss and my Carnivean weapon locks the Ravagore so that his galleon can't drag either of them. Allen then proceeds to pin my entire unit of striders behind the building with a unit of eliminators (not going to let that happen again...) His Nyss and galleon proceed to kill three of my raptors and they fail their command check, and his assassins engage all my hex hunters before he pops feat. My hex hunters are all in his feat range so they just stand there and twiddle their thumbs, my Raptors rally and my striders kill one of the kayazy blocking them in so that the Deathstalker can move out and kill a couple of nyss and Annyssa Ryvaal does the same. I keep the ravagore out of his feat range and lob another scather at the nyss, hitting two of them then the carnivean weapon locks him again. Allen kills most of the striders, one of the raptors, all of the hex hunters and engages the carnivean and the ravagore with Kayazy before advancing Fiona and the Bokur up to the flag for a control point. I move Lylyth up and pop feat before attempting a shot at Fiona but I'm out of range. So I shoot the bokur then use eruption of spines to finish him off while doing a couple of damage to Fiona, carnivean releases the weapon lock and moves towards Fiona (taking free strikes), spraying her, boost hit and damage for some damage, then the ravagore does the same, setting her on fire. Anyssa does some damage, bolt thrower can't make it into range. Striders charge and kill a Kayazy that was engaging my last raptor letting him move up and shoot Fiona, but he doesn't kill her. I end my turn and hope fire ends it, and it does.

Warmachine Monday 2-12

Jay Played Joshua Bates at Good Games. He ran Kraye with Stormwall, 2xMinuteman, 2xSentinel, 2xStormcaller, rangers, Aiyana and Holt, Journeyman and a Squire, I used my standard PLylyth list (Raptors, Striders, Carni, Ravagore, Bolt Thrower etc.)

I couldn't see a way to take down the stormwall reliably so I tried to work my way around to Kraye, Josh left one of his sentinels out of shield guard range, so I managed to get some damage on Kraye including cont. fire from the ravagore, but fell short. We played out for another couple of turns with more attempts on Kraye from me but still falling short. Eventually Lilly finally got hit enough to not be able to transfer lethal damage...

Played and painted for 2 points.

Kooinda Gaming Klub Slow growth league for 2014

Well 2014 is nearly upon us and its time to make a few decisions about next years slow growth league.

Last year was a bit of a bust we tried the battle box league but noone was really interested in it. Maybe 4 of us ended up with a battle box army.

This year was a real success with 6 or 7 of us having a full 50 point army and most of us can field 2 or 3 50 point armies in our chosen faction. We've played well over 200 games and our game play has improved out of site with Kort managing a 4th place in a tourney in Brisbane (I think it was BrisMachine)

So we talked about next year and came up with the following rules.

Kooinda Gaming Klub Iron Gauntlet (Some fancy name to be entered later) 2014

The Aim of the slow growth league for 2014 is to enable participants to be able to field 2 x 50 point armies from 2 different factions. Old armies may be used but each participant MUST choose 1 faction (or army) That they have not used in subsequent Slow growth leagues. (You can use the same faction but it must be a new army). Thos os your locked in faction.

So at the start of the year or when the first league game is played each participant will Lock in a faction that must be used at all SGL tournaments. The second faction is free and may be changed from game to game and tourney to tourney.

The first quarter we will be playing 25 point games (Yes 15 points blows)

The second quarter we will be playing 35 points

The third quarter will be 50 points and the last quarter will be decided at a later date (It will be a charity event).

At each tournament you must play at least one game with your Locked in Faction and you MAY use a second faction (50 point games you must present a second faction and you Must play 1 game with each faction).

Points for the table will be as of last year with the following changes.

Painting points. You will always get points for your Locked in faction as long as all models are painted. Your second faction may be an existing army and the first quarter it is used it will recieve painting points if all models are painted. Once you use a second faction all painted models in the faction whether they were used or not will be considered as having been used. In the next quarter if you use the same second faction you will only recieve painting points IF you have painted new miniatures and are using those miniatures in the game you are playing. You may opt to use another faction entirely (Ado has like 6 painted armies so he could do this easily) and the previous rules would apply.

There will be changes to the tournament rules as well like the scrapping of the coin rules as they were free points for Ado and Eddy. Now you will not get points having the coin as it gives you enough of an advantage as it is.

Also as we are now affiliated with LXG all league members either need to be a current member of LXG or Kooinda Gaming Club. Membership for LXG is as per the web site

Our 50pt Slow growth tourney will be held on 14th December

All are welcome to attend although if you haven't played before it would be a good idea to contact one of us to get so additional info on how we play.

So the rules are the same as the last tourney (except for points value) but I'll post them here for you all to read.

I will also be charging $15 a head to cover trophies and lunch. If your not in the SGL then just pay $10 for lunch. I do a BBQ and you can drink a couple of my beers.

50pt Slow Growth Tourney rules

We will be using the Steamroller 2013 with the following changes.

Army is 50 points.
Must be your slow growth army (This is the one you use in all slow growth games)
Must be fully painted. 3 colours and based. (Not really required but encouraged)
Turns will be 10 minutes with 5 minute extension.
4 games will be played with random for the first game and ranked for the rest. (SR says 3 for 8 or less but we play 4 games sorry Ado days too short with only 3 games)
After the first game the players will set up there army for the beauty pageant. Players will pick first and second and the totals will be tallied at the end of the tourney.

Slow growth tourney points rules

1 point for playing a game with your slow growth army
1 point if your army is fully painted (It should be painted)
1 point for playing a player you have never played before.
1 point for playing a faction you have never played
1 point for a win
1 point for a caster kill.

I am also adding some extra ways to make points when you play a tourney

1 point for playing a tourney game with your Slow growth army.
1/4 point for every objective point you get.
4 points for wining the tourney
1 point for any trophy you win.

1 point for holding a KGKT coin at the end of the tourney

Reroll coin rules
The holder of the coin may spend the coin to either reroll 1 dice or reroll all dice in one roll. The coin cannot be used to reroll a reroll. To spend a coin you hand it to your opponent. He may then spend it as above. The coin can only be used once a turn but may be used as many times during a games as turns permit. You may hold as many coins as you like. Coins are only usable in the year they are issued.

You can acquire league point with the coin in the following ways.
1 point if you have a coin at the start of the tourney
1 point for every game you hold a coin and don't spend it.
1 point if you have a coin at the end of the tournament.
You can only acquire league points with the coin if it is a slow growth tourney.
You may only use the coin at KGK tourneys.

Coins are issued as follows.
At the start of the year the person in the first tourney of the year who is the lowest person on the league table who has actually played at least one game will be issued a coin.
The person who finishes lowest on the table will be given a coin.

I believe Eddie and Ado hold a coin becuase I Jay spent his coin in a normal game last month (and still failed his leadership roll :D ). Not sure who got the coin in Jun but there are 3 of them out there now.

Trophies
There should be 6 trophies this month. The person who won the trophie last time has to make the trophie this time.
Trophie making rules are as follows.

1. It must cost under $5
2. It must take less than 3 hours to make
3. It must be made by the person who won it last. (And no using my minis buy your own damn trophy)

The trophies are as follows

1. Field Marshal: First place. (Chunky to make but it will be me again I recon.)
2. Parade Ready: Best painted army (Jay won finally)
3. Assassin: Fastest caster kill (I think Gelfie won this one so me again)
4. Genocide: Highest army points killed (Ado got this 1 from memory)
5. Slayer award: for the model (selected by the player) who takes the most boxes during the tourney. Eddie I think
6. Fat Controller: The person who claims the most control points. (Kort to make)

We also have the coin for the last place.

So as I see it just for playing you should walk out with 12 points on the table (and maybe 13 cause you should win a trophy). Give me a message if you intend to come along cause if I get 8 players I will register it on the wanking ranking site.

Also I want to do up trophies for the league table so give me some ideas for prizes or trophies.

Table for October is updated but I am missing all of Jays Tourney points. I also re jigged ado's points cause he cant add. SO this is it for November. I assume games have been played but noone has updated the facebook page yet.

War machine Monday 4-11: Kort v jay with cygnar Ehaley vs Legion Rhyas.

I took first and ran with most models, cast temp acc on stormy and advanced n dropped pod and aoe's.

Jay ran his force up, through tough on the war spears and ran into position and the turn passed.

I decided to try for an assassination attempt on Rhyas i allocated 4 and cast temp accel on the stormy and dead eye on the gun mages then popped feat. Gun mages got Rhyas down to 4? Hit boxs, he had couple transfers but was holding onto them due to 3 heavy gun shots coming his way. Stormy boosted two shots and missed twice, my third shot I threw into a sythien and did 13 boosted damage!!

With that said the rest of my force positioned themselves and the stormlances assaulted some spears, one ran to engage the war chief on my right flank and the others killed one spear.

Jay went and couldn't really do too much with the feat up. He cast a couple spells threw up no shooting from his hellion to stop the gun mages and that was it.

My turn went with a few TK's in order to free up some mages and attempt shots, they that could shot and took out the shepherd. My stormy scrapped both the Scythian and proteus and the hammer dwarves took out the objective on my right. I scored 2 points and was looking good:)

Jay decided to go for it as best he could and fated, his lone war chief killed all but 3 dwarfs and wars spears swung at a pod and junior taking them both out, then he went in with his battle engine to try and leap and kill Haley but I TK it last turn so it was facing the wrong way and couldn't charge, later jay realized it had 360, but it still didn't do the job. My dwarfs were fleeing so jay picked up a point.

My turn started with 4 going to stormy and a lil thinking taking place. Basically Haley TK Rhyas to turn her but to the stormy then thorn got his free advance and she TK the bolt thrower, jays last beast, out of transfer range she then stood still and boosted a shot at the succubus in the way of stormy from advancing in. She hit and couldn't boost range but rolled enough anyways. So stormy went in competing with spears and an objective but was able to get reach on his caster. First attack boosted hit and at dice plus 6, it auto killed yay.

We even rolled it out too see what would happen if he did transfer and I still rolled enough to kill the beast and to splash enough back anyways, but it doesn't hurt to be safe

Game weekend Aris’s House 16-17 Nov

A few games over the weekend. Ado and Eddy where trying out some armies for Cancon so I obliged then with a game. Kort jumped in as well eager to get enough points to pass Ado on the league table.

Jay Played Tony at Good-Games, they wanted to close up shop early so Tony got aggressive and left PDoomshaper on the front lines, Belphagor moves up and throws PDoomy back towards my army and my caster and Scythean finish him. New player,played, painted, caster kill and win for 5 points.

Grimjaw's Grab 'n' Smash

Hey all some more stuff from the slightly darkened corners of my mind. This time its the kraken.

Straight out of the box i didn't like the legs (common complaint apparently) So i looked on line for inspiration and came up with a short list of improvements.

-longer legs (war of the worlds was first to mind)
-swap round weapons to improve looks
-use all of the parts. some conversions did away with the crab claws which i wanted to keep

taller check! legs were brass rod.

leg details are a doc octopus toys arms cut up and threaded onto the rod like beads. 

Very tedious but effective.

weapon swap detail. i really like the guns in this configuration 

the kraken in all its glory

have since got some paint on this bad boy will get a post up soon.

1 October 2013: Kort vs Aris 50 points.
I know this was a crap game. I was never in it. Cygnar just over power with shooting. 50 points are not good for pirates they work better at lower points and my collosus may as well not be there when a 5 point unit can take it out. The biggest problem I have with warmachine is that there is no level across the factions. Anyway points are:
* Kort gets 3 points for win play paint
* I get 2 point for play and paint

2 october. Jay vs Eddie. Jay wins on control points.
*Jay gets 3 points
*eddie two for play paint

Next Aris vs eddie he gets ful points cause I rage quit. I cant kill something with armour 31 once again needs a cap to make it fair across the factions but that will never happen.

*I (Aris) get 2 points play and paint
*Eddie gets 4 points for play win paint castor kill

October: Kort vs Aris. Kort played trolls so no points for him and I played Bart. Kort won the game but we recorded it and found he had 2 animi on his bomber. One from the axer which allowed him to get closer to my caster and 1 from the spear chucker so he could get close enough to chuck two bombs and kill bart. So he cheated and I get full point.

Also I played a game against Ado. I don’t remember the details but I was testing a new list. Im pretty sure he beat me on scenario but cant remember so points are

Updated league games from bris machine:

KORT: This years weekend at bris machine I took my league army cygnar and went with Brisbane and EHaley.

Game one was against the master bates which was a mirror match, I took Brisbane and he dropped "the ECaine list"
I ended up conceding after all the bullshit that "the Caine list" is and scored
*myself playing, new player, new faction = 3 Points

Second game was against the Sam man. Another mirror match, I took haley and He dropped ENemo. Long game drawn out, i should have won but didn't because I forgot a few of my in play abilities, but that's the game.
*playing, new player = 2 Points

Third game was against the parfait wearing jaybo. I took Brisbane and jay had lylyth. He went for a long shot turn two but was out so I cleaned up. 
* Kort play, win and caster kill. = 3 points
* jay  play and paint = 2 points

Last game was against a new player to the tournament scene he played legion with Elylyth and Pthags. He took lylyth and I dropped brissie again. Another quick game he moved and feated turn two and I responded with a Brisbane boosted feat shot at lylyth without any fury and that was that.
* Kort play, win, caster and new player = 4 points.

Wasn't a bad weekend I drove so couldn't drink food was good quality and cheap but there was no lucky dip and the top spots went to the same people as it always has this year so I went home with nothing but some good games of warmachine.

Eddie: So like Ado, Kort and Jay I played at brismachine and took my cryx.

Had terminus and coven as my casters.

1st game was against Dave Potts.
He had skorne and dropped hexeris (one with the arc node bond) was a tight game came down to me putting terminus into tiberion to kill him and putting a big threat on his caster. then he went in with a brute and had to use all his fury to kill me. He nearly choked cause he forgot terminus had tough! but bad luck to me terminus dies. Good tense game.

Game 2 Justin with legion.
Forcing me to use termi again (coven don't like legion)
He had thagrosh with tyfon and 2 heavies, ogre warspears, legionnaires and the pot.
Terrain and scenario forced the legionnaires into control range of termi and it wasn't to hard to kill most of them and feed terminus enough souls to camp on arm 28 one turn then with cull soul camped on 30 next turn. his heavies bounce off and i the charge thagrosh for the win.

Game 3 tony mercs gorten.
I use coven but wraith engine stalls on a flank due to tough press gangers. Kraken gets scrapped to easily by forge guard (partly my fault partly a tough roll denying as kill shot - dahm piper of ord!)
death jack then has to take on a driller and a rockram not good odds even if he is the death jack. mechanithralls play a rolling retreat against most of his army but only delay the enviable as i slowly lose witches over a few turns. Brutal game make me want to dust off my Gorten and give him an airing.

Game 4 clinton cygnar. (If this is ClinTonKen and you played him at the tourney last month lose 2 points)
Old friend from warhammer days. I drop terminus again cause he has lots of living. he has stryker roudy, gallant, precurser knights, gunmages, blazers.
wraith engine and mechanitralls are able to clear my left zone. Gallant got unlucky and failed to kill engine. termi feeds off the knights souls as the mechanithrall blob pushed towards the mages. termi and my withershadow are forced over to his zone to stop striker farming control points termi camps and runs into melee with styker he is unable hurt termi so has to camp and clear the combine out of the zone to dominate up to 3. termi is forced to have a go at stryker camping arcane shield and some focus. a few lucky rolls get the job done. phew that was close. gotta keep an eye on the scenarios in the future.

all in all a good day. bit hot but that's qld for ya. thanks to chunky for running another great event and to my opponents on the day.

Ado: I played the mercs, Did not do well but enjoyed the company and games

Day one I played Prime Magnus and Drake MacBain

First round played Dodgy - great game but I took my eyes of the scenario and let him get 1 control points, at dice down I lost to scenario but was totally owning Dodge on the attrition battle, hmm.. Need to think about my game a bit more.

Round two Played Jay, Good match up but Jay forgot the drag on the galleon!?! pulled in Bethayne in her warbeast and proceeded to smash her down with just about every activation in my force. Win for me (only one for the day)

Round three played trent with Emorv AKA GoatGirl! all I can say Emorv's is awesome and when played buy a talented player is terrifying. Big lost (Tabled!)

Last round and man I'm tired! Play a really nice guy name Tmo with a dwarf Colossal "Earthbreaker" and Tmo assassinated Drake in turn 3, just kept his eyes on the prize I had a chance to drag in Gorton in but for the life of me I cannot think why I didn't.

On day two which was a Tiers list only tournament I had two games that couldn't be any different (Round one vrs Josh with Ehaley) game over in 12 Minutes and I think Josh was going easy on me.
